MAYOR’S REPORT
FEB 28 TO MARCH 14, 2010
WED MARCH 3
A meeting was held with a possible builder for the replacement of Gustafson House at the corner of Veterans Ave and Third Street. The Lower Similkameen Community Services Society offices and activity areas are now too small and not suitable for the programmes the Society currently manages.
THUR MARCH 4
RDOS meeting in Penticton. A protective services committee meeting with statistical information from Inspector Haughi, crime stoppers, and a report on 911 emergency phone services. A report was given to Council on the RCMP last week. During the regular board meeting, a presentation was done by the Ministry of Agriculture, on noxious weeds.
FRI MARCH 5
The opening of the South Okanagan /Similkameen Health Fair took place at the convention center in Penticton, with a very candid informative talk given by Dr. Art Hister. I also participated in a symbolic 3 km walk for healthy living.
SAT MARCH 6
Barbara and I attended the health fair and viewed many different displays and informational booths available to the public. A worthwhile event that the public should take more interest in.
MON MARCH 8
Council and senior staff held another budget meeting. We also held a short meeting with the Directors of Areas B and G to discuss items of mutual interest.
WED MARCH 10
I managed to attend the first half of the Liquid Waste Management Plan meeting held in Council Chambers. Councillor Minshull and I then participated in the Directors meeting of Similkameen Valley Planning Society in Hedley. All seven jurisdictions are working closer together.
FRI MARCH 12
The steering committee of Phase 2 Sustainable Similkameen held a long conference call to review the draft report being written by the consultant. Modifications and changes were discussed and were forwarded to the consultant.
