River Safety - Don't Get Caught Off Guard!

If you are planning a walk near the Similkameen river in the upcoming weeks, please stick to designated higher trails and dikes.  Should you enter the river bed, use caution.  Do not cross the river and do not camp.

Springtime means riverbanks can be slippery and the water can suddenly start running fast.  With warm temperatures, spring thaws and rains can produce large amounts of runoff in a short time.  Those who have crossed the river could quickly become stranded due to fast rising waters, and those camping could be flooded out.

Enjoy the beauty of spring in the Similkameen region, and stay safe!
