Election Officials Required for 2018 General Local Election

The Village of Keremeos is seeking Election Officials to assist with the 2018 general local election for Mayor, Councillors, School Trustees and a borrowing question.

The general local election is on Saturday, October 20, 2018 and advance voting will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2018. Victory Hall will be the voting location on both days, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Election Officials must be available at 7:30 a.m. to set up and after 8:00 p.m. to secure the location on October 10 and to conduct a ballot count on October 20.

Total Fire Ban in Effect for RDOS and Village of Keremeos

Effective at noon on Thursday, July 26, 2018, campfires will be prohibited throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.

 

The BC Wildfire Service is dealing with several large fires in the Kamloops Fire Centre as a result of lightning storms that moved through the Okanagan last week. Hot and dry conditions are expected to continue. The fire danger ratings in the Kamloops Fire Centre are now generally “moderate” or “high”, but these ratings will likely increase this week.

Take Precautions when Skies are Smoky

OKANAGAN-SIMILKAMEEN – Several wildfires are creating smoky skies across Okanagan communities and residents living in close vicinity to a fire are reminded to take precautions to protect their lung health.

 

Wildfires are a regular part of summer in British Columbia. With wildfires comes the potential for wildfire smoke pollution in and around communities across the Interior. The best way to deal with smoke pollution is to be prepared and take measures to reduce your exposure to smoke.

Similkameen Recreation Manager Hired | Keremeos Community Pool Party

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is pleased to announce Shane Marsh has been hired as the new Similkameen Recreation Manager. Shane has an extensive background in recreation programming and facilities management, including pool and ice rink operations.

 

Shane is a community-minded professional who has experience working with volunteer boards and community groups in the delivery of recreation programs. Shane is originally from Summerland, BC and joins the RDOS from Saskatchewan, where he was the Town of Carnduff Recreation Director.

Similkameen Riverbed Prohibition on Camping and Fires

The Village of Keremeos is working with land owners to protect the Similkameen riverbed area southeast of town.

 

Signs have been erected at entrances to the riverbed, advising visitors that access is limited to respectful day-use only, 7 am to 9 pm. Users are reminded to leave the area as they found it.

 

Camping, fires, smoking and soil disturbance are prohibited. Village of Keremeos staff and the RCMP will enforce.

 

The Village is pleased to help restore the area to its natural beauty, and to protect the rare species that live there.

Invasive species website creates one-stop shop for Okanagan’s agricultural sector

Okanagan farmers, viticulturists, orchardists and ranchers have a new tool available to help manage invasive species. This digital ‘one stop shop’ features resources to assist producers in identifying invasive species, as well as management options and contact information for local experts. The Okanagan Invasive Species Online website (www.oiso.ca) was officially launched at the Okanagan and Similkameen Invasive Species Society’s AGM on June 13th in Penticton, BC.

The Village of Keremeos is pleased to announce the three successful applicants for the 2018 Facade Improvement Program:

 

  • The Secret Garden for new awnings and sign
  • The Three Winds Gallery for wrap, paint and trim on the west facade
  • Outlaw Graphics for a complete new facade

     

We congratulate the successful applicants and are looking forward to seeing these exciting changes!
