Invasive Weeds

Invasive weeds, when allowed to grow and accumulate, spread their seeds, are unsightly and can ruin a beautiful lawn, but there are more severe impacts:

  • Can negatively impact biodiversity
  • Can cause species extirpation and even extinction
  • Can cause soil degradation, and erosion
  • Can alter fire cycles
  • Can cause human or animal suffering
  • Can reduce land and water recreational opportunities
  • Control and management costs can be significant
  • Can reduce productivity in forestry, agricultural, and fishing sectors
  • Can cause export and import trade restrictions
  • Can reduce property values

The Village of Keremeos Good Neighbour Bylaw No. 810 requires property owners to maintain their properties and surrounding boulevards from overgrown and dead vegetation.

Please be a good neighbour and remove weeds promptly, before they grow and go to seed.

For more information on types of weeds and proper removal, please visit OASISS (Okanagan and Similkameen Invasive Species Society).

The Village office at 702 4th Street also has printed information available, provided by OASISS.  Visit us Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:00pm.
