On November 4, 2019, Keremeos Council approved the Village’s joint application for grant funding from the Union of BC Municipalities to develop a Child Care Action Plan. The application was a partnership between Keremeos, the RDOS, Summerland, Oliver and Princeton.
The multi-jurisdictional Steering Committee reviewed eight proposals for the project and awarded the contract to develop a regional Child Care Action Plan to the Social Planning and Research Council of BC (SPARC BC). The project involved conducting a needs assessment, developing community profiles, conducting research on successful practices, defining quality child care and reviewing local policies. After engagement with communities, the Steering Committee agreed upon targets and the South Okanagan-Similkameen Child Care Action report was produced.
Further detail collected during the project can be found in the Review of Promising Practices and Research Findings and the Parent Caregiver Survey Report.
