Animal Control

Animal Control Bylaw # 258

The Animal Control Bylaw primarily regulates the type of animals that are permitted within the Village.  Unless property is located in an Agricultural Zone, animals other than household pets are not permitted.

Dog and Cat Control Bylaw #730

The licensing and control of dogs is regulated through the Dog and Cat Control Bylaw.  Dogs are not permitted to bark in a manner that disturbs the quiet of the neighbourhood, are not permitted to be at large, and vicious dogs require special precautions.  Every owner must immediately remove excrement left by their dog on another person’s property or on public property.  This bylaw also speaks to the number of dogs and/or cats a property is permitted, and that cats must be contained to their own property.

Dog licences are required to be renewed each year by January 1st.  There is a grace period until before March 1st to purchase licences at the reduced rate.

Dog Licence Fees (Before March 1st):

$40.00                Not neutered or spayed

$20.00                Neutered or spayed

Dog Licence Fees (After March 1st):

$50.00                Not neutered or spayed

$30.00                Neutered or spayed

The Village also sells dog licences for the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS).

Stray Dogs

If you have found a dog, please call the Village at 250-499-2711.  During regular business hours, a bylaw officer may be available to pick up the dog, or you may bring it to the Village Office at 702 4th Street.  The Village will try to connect the dog back with its owner by posting a notice on the Village Facebook page and a notice in front window.  If dog is not claimed before end of business day, it will be taken to the Penticton Animal Shelter.

The Penticton Animal Shelter is located at 2330 Dartmouth Road, Penticton and their phone number is 250-492-3801.

There are fees associated when a dog is impounded.

After Hours:  If a stray dog is found within the Village boundaries while Village office is closed, please call 250-502-9006 and leave a detailed message.  The Bylaw Officer will return your call as soon as possible.

If the dog is found outside the Village boundaries, please call RDOS Animal Control at 250-460-1117.
